The yolk's on us

Riley had a project to do over spring break. He had to create a character from a book, using a blown egg. Lots of hilarity with my husband trying to blow the egg guts out. Brown eggs really don't work that well. We switched to white. After much huffing and puffing, all of the guts were out. Riley painted his egg, added a tail, a fuzzy mane and a face and ta da!

It's Aslan from the Chronicles of Narnia. Cute huh? I helped him glue the mane because it was a big old pain in the neck-ha ha ha ha.
Here's his back side. See? He's an egg. Riley did an egg-celent job! Sorry could not resist that one. He's got pom poms for legs. He also wrote a paragraph describing the characteristics of Aslan. He did a fine job on that too.

Baseball again

After a week of no baseball (due to spring break), we were back at the field Saturday.
Riley played catcher during his game. Doesn't he look professional? Look at his hand. He's a pro.
Quinn gave me thumbs up from 2nd base. He ran like a speeding bullet. He also danced, but I missed the photo op-shoot. (No pun intended.)

Finally, a project!

I made this today. I used the tutorial for Betz White's Spring mini tote bag. Her bag is super cute, pink, with more flowers, leaves and buttons. I have her book as well, and had fun "felting" my thrift store finds. Thanks Dad for that cute stripe-y sweater! Thanks to Betz White for creating such a great tutorial, and a really cute bag! I'm pretty happy with mine too.

Sneak Preview

Well, I finally got my etsy shop going. I have 7 items for sale. Here they are here. Check out my etsy shop. There's a link-over there, on your right. See it? Under, "My Shop." Check it out.

Easter

Everyone had a nice Easter morning. I love these Nerds Bumpy jellybeans. They made my Easter sweet! The kids didn't care for them, but I loved the bumpy texture and tangy goodness, and the fact that I don't have to share.

Riley's Easter present...Why the Elements of Destruction DS game-perfect for a peaceful Easter Sunday. He can create his own natural disasters-he's pretty psyched too.

Quinn loved his Batman Easter-um, eggs??? He's psyched too.

Saturday... in the park I think it was the 4th of July

Sorry, I've been in a Chicago mood lately. Just ordered a greatest hits CD from Amazon-perhaps that's a different blog.
Here's Riley and Quinn looking hot and sweaty at Lake Elizabeth Park today. The weather was great-about 70 degrees! I can feel summer!

We had a little reunion with our daycare friends at the park today. That's Marcus, Quinn, Sebastian, Sophia, Riley and Marissa. The kids loved playing together, and the park was just a bonus!

Happy Birthday Riley

Today is Riley's 10th birthday. I can't believe he's 10! We spent the whole day playing baseball. Quinn had a game at 11 am, then we went to lunch, then back to the field for Riley's game at 3pm. After his game, we went to Chili's to celebrate his birthday. They sang to him and he got this chocolate shake. Happy Birthday Riley!

Things I Love

Brotherly love!

The coming of Spring.

Green, green hills.

Oh, and Target!

Baseball, Full Swing!

Riley and Quinn, ready to "play ball!" Riley is a royal this year (as he has been all of the 4 years he's played-no, wait...he was a Yankee his first year of T-ball!), and Quinn is an Oriole. He wanted to be a Giant. Same color scheme, but backwards.

Check out the view from the baseball field! Nice rolling, green hills. Isn't it pretty? The green lasts until about May, and then the hills go brown.

Dream Girl

No pictures today, but I just wanted you all to know that I am a dream girl. Want to know how I know? Well, Quinn told me. In the car, on the way to pick Riley up from baseball practice, Quinn tells me he has a dream girl and wants me to guess. Dream girl? Where'd he get that? I guess a few little girls from his class (he likes them to chase him). "No," he says. He gives me clues...green shirt, brown hair. I'm stumped, who could he be talking about and HOW am I going to guess. He gives me another, she's wearing a silver necklace. I figure it out and say, "Me?" Yes, I am his dream girl. Isn't that cute? When I pointed out that I thought I might be Daddy's dream girl, he said, "No, he never says that." (ouch) What a funny little guy. Oh, but it's a secret so don't tell anybody. Oh, and the dream girl thing? He learned it from the Naked Brothers Band.

California History 101

We stopped by to see this big guy on Saturday. This guy is Junipero Serra, leader of many of the 21 California missions. Missions were used to house the first non-native people (and along the way, assimilate the Native American Indians, forever changing their lives) along the El Camino Real. All 4th grade students in the state of California learn all about the missions of California. They make missions. I made one in 4th grade, out of clay. There are kits now-Michael's has a ton. If Riley has to do one, we won't use a kit. We are lucky to have a real mission in our own backyard, Mission San Jose. Anyway, Father Serra sits off of the 280 Freeway on the way to San Francisco. When I was going to college, I passed him all the time. I used to think he had a gun. That's just his finger. What's he pointing at you ask? Well, the Pacific Ocean of course! If you want to see all of the pictures, just scroll down this blog, on the right side. See the heading that says "Family Love?" Click on Kevin's Flickr photos and there will be more pictures there. I especially like the picture of Father Serra's piggy toes. Oh yeah, and since we were hosting Clifford this weekend, we took him with us. He had a good time.
