Not crafty at home

I have not been creative at home at all lately. Mostly because baseball is kicking my butt, not to mention my duties at school (Star testing, end of year paperwork, endless correcting, math adoption-or not, oh and of course socializing with my buddies at school). I've also been trying to keep the house clean (or at least picked up-unsuccessfully), oh and my husband and I share the office and I can't "create" when he's talking to himself (podcasting). I HAVE been creative at school though. Here's our latest art project.

I did this art project with my class this week. It was a lesson in pointillism. They used a Q-tip and decorated a quilt block with dots. I then mounted them on colored paper (after trimming 8x8 squares), punched holes in all 4 corners, and tied all of the squares together to make a quilt. It's quite a hit. I was pleased with how they all turned out.

This one was done by one of my students. She did a really good job and she stuck with a pattern, as opposed to just random colored dots.

This is an art project from a couple of weeks ago. We used white crayons to make background designs on white paper, and then watercolored over that, creating the resist. We used a bird pattern, traced it on black paper, and glued it to the watercolor to create an interesting look.

This is a tissue paper butterfly. The kids used small squares of colored tissue paper (no, I didn't have to cut them, I bought them in 2x2 squares) and glued them to their butterfly template. They got to decide on their patterns for the wings and body. I like this one a lot. I think it's the same girl who did the nice quilt block. She gets it.

Can you tell I'm getting ready for Open House in May?

I want these

I got the new Crate & Barrel Best Buys catalog in the mail today, and I want these. Check out the room view of them. Sooo cute! I'm predicting a trip to my nearest C&B in search of them. The catalog shows them sold in sets of 4, but it appears that, online, I could buy however many I want. I'm hoping that's true in the store as well. I have to go now, research for all of you, cuz I know you want some too!

Check this out!

Keep watching, and see what happens. It's very clever, and very cool. I'd like to visit this store!

More weekend stuff

Kristi and I went to the Target flagship store in downtown Minneapolis. Target was born in Minnesota, you know. We took the light rail down. It was cold. We did not dress properly, and we didn't find out about the completely covered skyways which go from building to building, until we were good and frozen.

I got to see Mary! There's a statue of Mary Tyler Moore downtown. She's throwing her hat, just like she does on the Mary Tyler Moore Show! The show took place in Minneapolis. I just love that show. Check out amazon, cuz it's out on DVD-at least 3 seasons worth! You're gonna make it after-all...

Here's my mom and me. We are standing on what used to be first base, when the mall was a baseball stadium. There's a little plaque there, on the ground, in the amusement park area.

Here's Kristi and I. We are at the airport waiting (and waiting and waiting and waiting) to go home. Our plane was over an hour late. They were "looking" for it they told us. Hmmm?

Girls' Weekend!

This past weekend, my mom, my friend, Kristi, and I went to the Mall of America in Minnesota. It was fun.

There are 4 levels to the mall, 3 of them contain stores. 520 stores! There are 4 anchor stores, Nordstrom, Bloomies, Macy's and Sears.

We played Mall of America Survivor (Ok, not really, but I loved this sweatshirt.)

Oh yeah, and it snowed. A lot. It was also freezing cold, only in the 30's, and yes, we were very aware how warm it was here last weekend, thank you very much.

There is also an amusement park in the middle of the mall. And a miniature golf course, and a 14 screen movie theater, and an aquarium-a pretty good one too.

Did you know there are plans to expand this mall??? The plans include an ice rink and a water park.

Preparing for the Girls weekend

I made these travel journals for my mom, my BFF and me. We are heading to Minnesota-The Mall of America-on Thursday morning. It's a girls shopping weekend! Those stores are calling my name! We are all very excited, but a little concerned about the weather. It appears it will be COLD, and possibly snowy. It's going to be in the 80's here this weekend. Hmmph. Oh well, there's plenty of time to enjoy our weather with summer around the corner. I'm going to shop.

All of it's hot! All counterfeit!

...So I fixed up the basement with what I was a-workin' with, stocked it full of jelly jars and HEAVY... EQUIPMENT! We're in the basement. 10-20-30 million dollars ready to be spent...

Do you see that $0.00 bill? Clever! The green one
must be one of those new-issue bills.

Any you've got to love the $10004.00 bill!

And of course, the cute counterfeiter himself.
I guess he isn't earning enough money, so he
has to make his own.
