Hello

We went to see Blondie and the B-52's last night, this time on the correct night! It was a great show. The B-52's are always a lot of fun, and Blondie was just as good as last summer.

The boys, standing in the last row of seats. Quinn is sporting a new do. They both liked the show, especially B-52's. Who wouldn't enjoy the energy of that band?

The Mountain Winery in Saratoga is a small venue. It's really nice though.

I don't know what he's doing. Cool hair though, huh? He is really into it. He loves his hair gel too, "Super Spikes."

Blondie-always a good performance. Deborah Harry can still sing, and she sounds just like the record. My favorite song is "Atomic," which they sang. Yay!

B-52's were a lot of fun. Cindy and Kate both can still really sing. They had some techy sound issues at first, but their techy guys figured it out. I was sad that they didn't play "Quiche Lorraine," but they were still great.

Haircut

Quinn was looking rather scruffy. He started complaining about his hair being in his eyes, so we went to get his hair cut tonight.
Before, waiting his turn at our trusty Supercuts.

After. It's super short. He requested a cut that he can spike up. I bought him a HUGE bottle of Spiker Gel. It was all I could find at Target today. $1.84 and it will last him until high school. He's pretty excited about the gel. I spiked his hair for him, and then he tried. He even wanted to put the gel in after his shower. He's so funny.

BTW

I forgot to share Riley's good news!

I upgraded my 3G iPhone, for the 4G. We gave Riley my old phone. He took a pay cut in his allowance to cover his data plan. He understands all of our rules regarding his use of the phone. He is VERY responsible, and lucky for us, quite the rule follower. His old phone was crap. He is super happy. Lucky kid. What can I say? We are Apple geeks.

Low-key Day

We had a very low-key day today, just hanging around the house. I slept in, and that felt great! The boys played on their computers, and with their Star Wars things. Both rooms, which were clean, are a mess. Oh well, they are having fun. In the early evening, we all ventured out to the mall. The boys were dying to spend their money, and they had some Star Wars items in mind, so we went to Target.
Quinn got this Galactic Heroes AT-AT. It's really very cool. We had to advance him some allowance so that he could get it. This would not have lasted long at Target. When these things are available, it's best to get them as they sell out. Quinn plays with these Galactic Heroes, all the time. He loves them.

Riley bought a Chewbacca, and a snowspeeder. He still loves his Star Wars action figures and ships. He doesn't so much play with them as he just sets them up. These boys are Star Wars crazy around here.

Blondie/B-52's Anyone?

I went shopping today with friends, Valerie and Jenn. My one friend, Valerie, is visiting from Illinois. She used to live here, but she and her family moved away. It's always great to see her. We all had so much fun! When I got home, Kevin, Riley, Quinn and I headed out to the Mountain Winery, in the mountains of Saratoga, CA, to see Blondie/B-52's. It's a twisty, narrow, long road up to the winery entrance, and then another twisty, narrow, long road up to the winery itself. We made it up-almost being hit by a short limousine that was going down way too fast for the crooked road. We paid to park. We grabbed our things and headed for the doors.
First though, we stopped for pictures. That's the city of San Jose, CA down there.
The boys, sun in their eyes, with the city behind them. Pretty huh? I bet you want to know how the show was?

I really couldn't tell you, since the show was not tonight, it's TUESDAY. Oh man. I have no idea how in the world we got the date wrong. We didn't realize until the guy scanned the first ticket, and the scanner said, "Wrong date." We looked at the tickets and sure enough...Aug. 10. Crap. That place is not the easiest place to get to. We went back to the car, were able to get our $15 parking fee back, and headed back DOWN the mountain. We'll do it all again on Tuesday night. Thankfully we got it wrong before the actual date, as opposed to AFTER the date. Whew. The funniest part though is that Chelsea Handler was there tonight. I can only imagine what people thought as we walked up to the entrance with our kids in tow! Definitely a different crowd than the Blondie/B-52's crowd.
We decided to eat at Florentine, in Cupertino. They have the yummiest bread and cheese spread. The. Yummiest. We didn't think these restaurants existed any longer. We used to have one here, in Fremont, but it closed. There are still a few around, according to the internet search I did, so now we know, and we can go back when we need our herbed bread and cheese spread fix.

Now for something completely unrelated...When I was in Kentucky, I found these vintage Barbie dresses for sale at an antique store. I bought them up! $2 each!! I washed them, and they are good as new, short, but good as new.

Did You Miss Me???

After a very long travel day, my mom and I made it safely home from Kentucky. Our flight didn't leave Louisville until 4:40 pm, but there were major storm warnings, so we headed for the airport around 1 pm. We were pretty early. Our flight to Denver, for our layover, was uneventful, but we didn't get to sit together. I sat next to a grumpy guy, in the exit row. We had a really LONG layover in Denver. We landed at 5:30 and our plane wasn't set to leave until 9:15. We ate sandwiches from Schlotsky's Deli-they were really yummy! Finally, we boarded our last plane-late. We were on the plane, and around 9:30, the captain said we would be delayed an additional hour due to "low ceilings" in SF (aka FOG). Here we had come from super extreme weather, and it was the San Francisco fog that delayed us. We could have gotten off of the plane, but had to be back on at 10:00. Again my mom and I were not seated together. I was near the back of the plane, with a relatively nice guy and his unfortunately (for him) bitch of a girlfriend/wife. She was quite a piece of work, in her pajama bottoms with her Coach purse, and grumpy attitude. I really felt bad for that guy-she bitched at him, drank two airplane sized bottles of wine, and FINALLY went to sleep. We were on our way by 10:20, and landed at SFO at 11:30-CA time-It took 2 hours to get to SFO. We waited FOREVER for our luggage, and since my mom and I are so lucky, ours was the last luggage to leave the carousel. I was home a little after 1:00 am-which wouldn't be so bad, but our bodies were still on Eastern Time. I went right to bed. Here are some pictures from our trip.
This is my grandma, Lillie, and her friend, George.
This is the wedding cake from my cousin's wedding. It was really yummy.
Look at the cake toppers! So cute!
The groom's cake. Kissing cows-red velvet cake. We had cake for the rest of our stay-wedding cake, because my cousin's dog got to the cow cake.

Can you see the pants on this guy? They were WILD. Apparently they used to belong to his father, in the 60's, and he likes to wear them to parties. I love the pairing of the golf shirt with them.
I met up with my friend, Terri, at Newport on the Levee, in KY. We were right across the river from Cincinnati.
A bridge to Cincinnati.
Another bridge to Cincinnati.

On my way home from Newport, I took farm roads. I love this barn and the green grass. Kentucky is really so green and pretty.

My mom and I had a lot of fun, but it's always great to be home. My boys missed me, and so did the dog. My new iPhone was here, waiting for me, and I have overdosed on my computer today. Normal life begins again.

A Country Wedding

My mom and I came to Kentucky for my cousin's wedding.

This picture is from Friday night's rehearsal.

Wedding time! They all cleaned up really well. It was a beautiful ceremony. We were sweating bullets, but the ceremony was short and sweet.

The reception. There were two cakes. The wedding cake had two tractors on the top as cake toppers. The groom's cake was two kissing cows.

This is a picture of my uncle and aunt dancing. It was hysterical. They were dancing to Love Shack by the B-52's. See the girl at the table? Their daughter. She was completely mortified.

The reception was TONS of fun! The bride wanted a country wedding and that was exactly what she got. It was really fun.
