Muir Beach and Sausalito

We were going to do a day trip to Yosemite today, but then we remembered the dog. We can't really leave her for that long. It's a 3+ drive there and back, plus the time we would spend there. We think we'll drop her off at doggie daycare next weekend, and go then. Instead, we slept late, and then headed out for Muir Woods, in Mill Valley, after lunch. We got there, but there was NO place to park. Today was a "free" day, so everyone and their uncle, was there. We kept going, and ended up at Muir Beach instead. It was beautiful. A little chilly, but really clear.
Muir Beach.
What a great catch! We didn't catch this fish. It was washed up on the beach. It was HUGE. It was also missing its eyeballs. Ew.
I just love big rocks in the ocean.
Riley, throwing rocks.
Quinn, running from the cold water. For those of you that don't know, the Pacific Ocean is very cold-at least it is here in CA. Hawaii is another story, but here, it's COLD. 56 degrees or so. COLD.
Posing for a picture in a little stream.
When we left Muir Beach, we were headed toward San Francisco, and decided to stop in Sausalito. There were TONS of European tourists. It was crowded, but it was such a beautiful day, and so clear! There are spectacular views of SF. We had ice cream while we were there, too!
Aren't these boys cute?
We passed a guy who was balancing rocks. Can you see how they are balanced? Really cool.

Quinn gave the man a tip, and the he got to practice balancing rocks with the rock man.

Ice Cream!

We finally made a trip to Fentons Creamery. Fentons has been in business for 115 years! They are famous for their ice cream. Fentons was the inspiration for the ice cream parlor in UP!

This Fentons is in Oakland, although I think it's technically in Piedmont, CA.

Riley had chocolate peanut butter crunch, on a cone.

Quinn had cookie dough, on a cone.

Kevin had mud pie.

I had a small chocolate peanut butter crunch sundae, with jersey topping.

We had dinner too, but the ice cream was the highlight.

Cleaning Spree

I am on a cleaning spree roll! I am going through every room in my house, cleaning out closets and drawers. I've done my room and bathroom so far. Yesterday I did Riley's room (OH what a mess that was!) I started out in Quinn's room, but I lost some of my cleaning mojo. I was distracted with Facebook and my virtual worlds on my phone. I've also had a headache all day. I am going to get in there and finish his room tomorrow. I am saving our office for last of all.
Riley's super clean, dusted and vacuumed room. I didn't take a picture of the before, and I really should have. You would not believe the mess. This boy does not believe in a garbage can either.
Everything is in its place. I am going to bother him every day to keep his room clean.
His desk area. I think I will make an Ikea run for a desk lamp. Riley's room is the darkest in the house. It's an inside room, with a small window that looks out into the backyard.

Oh, and before the next picture, I must confess that I had one major distraction today, for just about two hours...

BABIES! I got to play with babies! A Friend had TWINS! That's Lydia and Finn, born July 31. Aren't they so cute???? Who can blame this kind of distraction? I'll take babies over cleaning any old day. I got to hold both of them. It's so strange to me how you can forget how tiny we all start out. It seems forever ago that mine were this size, and now they are giant.

Hello

We went to see Blondie and the B-52's last night, this time on the correct night! It was a great show. The B-52's are always a lot of fun, and Blondie was just as good as last summer.

The boys, standing in the last row of seats. Quinn is sporting a new do. They both liked the show, especially B-52's. Who wouldn't enjoy the energy of that band?

The Mountain Winery in Saratoga is a small venue. It's really nice though.

I don't know what he's doing. Cool hair though, huh? He is really into it. He loves his hair gel too, "Super Spikes."

Blondie-always a good performance. Deborah Harry can still sing, and she sounds just like the record. My favorite song is "Atomic," which they sang. Yay!

B-52's were a lot of fun. Cindy and Kate both can still really sing. They had some techy sound issues at first, but their techy guys figured it out. I was sad that they didn't play "Quiche Lorraine," but they were still great.

Haircut

Quinn was looking rather scruffy. He started complaining about his hair being in his eyes, so we went to get his hair cut tonight.
Before, waiting his turn at our trusty Supercuts.

After. It's super short. He requested a cut that he can spike up. I bought him a HUGE bottle of Spiker Gel. It was all I could find at Target today. $1.84 and it will last him until high school. He's pretty excited about the gel. I spiked his hair for him, and then he tried. He even wanted to put the gel in after his shower. He's so funny.

BTW

I forgot to share Riley's good news!

I upgraded my 3G iPhone, for the 4G. We gave Riley my old phone. He took a pay cut in his allowance to cover his data plan. He understands all of our rules regarding his use of the phone. He is VERY responsible, and lucky for us, quite the rule follower. His old phone was crap. He is super happy. Lucky kid. What can I say? We are Apple geeks.

Low-key Day

We had a very low-key day today, just hanging around the house. I slept in, and that felt great! The boys played on their computers, and with their Star Wars things. Both rooms, which were clean, are a mess. Oh well, they are having fun. In the early evening, we all ventured out to the mall. The boys were dying to spend their money, and they had some Star Wars items in mind, so we went to Target.
Quinn got this Galactic Heroes AT-AT. It's really very cool. We had to advance him some allowance so that he could get it. This would not have lasted long at Target. When these things are available, it's best to get them as they sell out. Quinn plays with these Galactic Heroes, all the time. He loves them.

Riley bought a Chewbacca, and a snowspeeder. He still loves his Star Wars action figures and ships. He doesn't so much play with them as he just sets them up. These boys are Star Wars crazy around here.
