Sun, Sun, Sun

We spent the majority of the day at a friends' house, for a Lugnut BBQ reunion. It was the same house as yesterday, you know, with the big waterslide. It was another really warm day. The boys had a blast. Riley loves, loves, loves that waterslide. In addition to the waterslide, and the sun, and the food, there were air-brushed tattoos. The kids all went nuts for that.
Here's Quinn getting his first tattoo. Look at the face! It's as if he's preparing for the needle! No needle here, just paint and air.
Putting the stencil on just so.
The gun show! "Fire Power!" He has cards on his arm.
We even got Riley in on the tattoo action. He has an eagle on his arm. It's perfect! We practically made him get this tattoo, just so that we would know if he bathes at all at camp next week! We didn't tell him that though. It's our little secret.

Oh, there were light saber battles as well. Quinn, battling his father. It was a really fun day, thanks again, Michelle, for hosting us all.

Word of the Day: Tired. We came home from the BBQ about 7 pm, and I was pretty much asleep on the couch. I guess that's what happens when there's lots of sun, and also some alcohol. The boys were tired too. We got them into bed early tonight.

Food, Fun, Hair, Pincushions and Strips

It's Friday, Yay!! It was busyish around here. We were invited to some friends' house for a fun day of food and waterslide fun. I had a haircut. I got to work on sewing some of my strips together, oh and I got my new pincushion! Hope your Friday was fun too!
Here's the Rocky Road cake I made for the festivities today. I had the first piece-had to make sure it was ok for everyone to eat. It was. Doesn't it look yummy? I love marshmallows. I love nuts, and well, chocolate is a given.
Here's the waterslide that our friends have. I swear Riley would move into their house with them if he could play on this every day. He LOVED it. Quinn did too, but it was lots of fun to watch Riley. He would launch himself, from the top, to the bottom, without touching the middle. All of the kids had a great time, and I had two very tired boys tonight. We'll go back again tomorrow for a BBQ for Quinn's T-ball team. You can imagine the excitement in the boys already. Thanks Michelle, for a wonderful day.
LOOK! My new pincushion arrived! Isn't it cute? I got it from a shop on Etsy, called "Feltmates." I needed another pincushion, but have been too lazy to make myself one, even though I have the cutest pattern for one.

I got 4 strip panels sewn together. I am liking how these are looking. I have 9 more to sew. It is pretty time consuming. It's easy, as all I have to do is sew a straight line. Each strip is about 36 inches long though, and there are 6 strips in a panel, with 9 panels to go. Lots left to do. I have time tomorrow to work on them. I am anxious to get the quilt finished. Take a look at my friend Valerie's quilt, HERE.

Word for the Day: Baking. I am going to bake my red velvet brownies now, for tomorrow's BBQ. I ended up making the rocky road cake for today. After that, I will read some of my Sookie Stackhouse book. I really like the way the author writes, and the story is very interesting to me. More so then Twilight...I know, GASP! I said it out loud! This book is for adults. I like that.

Just Another Thursday

It was another hang-around-the-house day. The boys played Star Wars Monopoly, the Wii, played with Legos, played outside etc. I sewed. I finished a project, and now I am free to finish my Quilt-A-Long quilt. I am dying to sew all of those strips together.
Quinn came into the kitchen this morning, saying his leg was broken, and wanted me to take a picture of him. Nothing to worry about. This is the pad for Riley's sleeping bag.
Two minutes later...his arm was broken. Playing with this mat erased the memories of his toothfairy visit last night. It seems the toothfairy did not leave him $1,000.00. She left him $5.00. Times are tough.
I got two new cases for my iPhone. This one, which I love, and a metallic orange one. I still have my Paul Frank monkey one, but it's gotten loose. I am in the process of an experiment right now. I put it in warm, soapy water, then into cold water. Now it is air-drying. I am hoping it will shrink up a little, so it fits snuggly.
Here's the bag I finished. It's a birthday present for the teacher my mom works with. I am hoping she doesn't read this blog regularly, as she won't get this bag until Monday. I love the material. Super cute.

Closer look.

Word of the Day: Target. I made a trip to Target today. I found a red velvet cake mix! I had checked three grocery stores for it. Wouldn't you know that Target would have it? I am making red velvet brownies with it, for a BBQ we are going to on Saturday. Anyway, I went in search of a bathing suit for Riley. Both of my Targets were out. Bummer. I found one for $7.50 at the good Walmart. Oh, and I also picked up the soundtrack for Slumdog Millionaire. We watched that last night. What a great movie, and I really loved the music.

By the way, Coraline comes out on DVD on Tuesday! I am so excited!

Wacky Wednesday

Wow, what a wacky Wednesday! Well, it really wasn't that wacky. How many words with a "W" do you think I can use in this post? Anyway, we had dentist appointments, well, the boys did anyway. Just a normal cleaning. No cavities. While there, I pointed out to our hygienist/friend, that Quinn had a really loose bottom tooth. We debated if she should pull it or not. Quinn was not in favor, but as she reached for some polish, it fell out! Wow! He was very thrilled. He wants $1,000.00 for it. I told him, "Good luck with that." The rest of the day was just a standard day, but the boys did get to play with Sophia and Sebastian, the children of my BFF, Kristi.
There was also packing going on. Riley is headed off to camp for a week, on Sunday. He's pretty excited. It's Scout camp. He went last year, but Kevin went too. This year, he's on his own. He's been told, numerous times, and by numerous people that he needs to change his socks and underwear. Remember, not too long ago, when he went camping for the weekend, on his own? He didn't change clothes-ANY of them, all weekend! Gross. A week would be worse. I told him I could care less if he showers, but I expected him to change his socks and underwear daily. Don't you worry, I WILL keep you posted! I know, you can hardly wait...you're welcome.
Here's Quinn, at the dentist office, with his tooth box (the tooth is inside), and his treasure, a green "diamond" ring! Oh, and I know it looks like he didn't lose a tooth. It's on the bottom.
We came home for volcanic sprinkler fun. The boys love this thing! It sprays a little water out of the sides, and then, when you least expect it, it erupts in water. Tons of fun!

Do you know why my Blythe (I really should give her a name) is so happy? She's getting new clothes! I ordered her a skirt, and two blouses, all the way from England! See how excited she is? I was just as excited. I changed her outfit. How do you like her punk rock boots?

Word for the Day: Jon. Ok, so this is super silly, but Jon (of Jon & Kate Plus 8), has a new girlfriend. She's 22. 22!!! The picture I posted of them on Facebook today, was of the two of them...SMOKING! Are you picturing me saying that like Cindy Brady? "Greg was...SMOKING!" Gross huh? What is wrong with him? Isn't he a little young to be having his mid-life crisis? It disturbs me, and I know it shouldn't. I feel bad for those kids. Crazy parents.

45. I counted 45 words that begin with "W." Ooops, that's now, 46.

Look What I Created

I played on scrapblog.com tonight, for quite awhile. See what I did...

I So LOVE Target, I Really Do!

I could barely get up this morning. I was up until almost 3 AM, finishing My Sister's Keeper. What a great book. Really a great story, but heartbreaking. Anyway, I couldn't put it down. We had to be at the orthodontist, for Riley, at 10:15. I got up at a quarter to nine, still tired. Oh well, I can get caught up tonight. It's summer, after all! Anyway, we literally spent 6 minutes with the orthodontist. He's always rushing about. Riley's eventually going to have braces. It's taking forever though. His lower jaw is growing at a much faster rate than the upper jaw-maybe that's why he eats so loud! We have to go back at the end of the month for another x-ray, and then we meet with the ortho again, to come up with a game plan.
After the orthodontist, we made a Target run. I picked up the above while there. Aren't they cool? There's a folder, and two bags made out of recycled cracker and potato chip bags. Too cool! The pencil boxes are by O.P.P (Other People's Plastic) and are also made of recycled materials, as are the pencils! I just love Target! These are so cool, oh and even better than the recycling end of it? Each item was $1.00! $1.00!!! Oh how my heart swoons for Target.

I also started my shopping for my classroom. I got 10 boxes of the Roseart colored pencils (12 colors)-on sale for $.50! The Crayola markers, packs of 10, are on sale for $1.00. Oh and I bought 21 calculators, for $1.00 each! I just love Target. LOVE them. I do. Really. Seriously.

Word for the Day: HOT! OMG, it was hot today! We had our AC on all day, and once we got back from the orthodontist and Target (heart heart heart), we were in the rest of the day.

We Went to the Zoo!

The boys and I set out this morning for the San Francisco Zoo. We really love this zoo. It was a beautiful day in SF too! My car thermometer said it was 77 degrees outside! We could wear short sleeves, very comfortably. It was awesome! We saw the baby gorilla-so cute and little! If you want to see the rest of my pictures, GO HERE.
The boys love to have their picture taken in this spot, so that they look like zoo workers. The SF Zoo has a really cool program where young kids-middle school age or a little older, work at the zoo. Some get to handle some of the smaller animals for zoo patrons, and give information about the animal and answer questions. If we lived closer, I would totally look into it for Riley.
Look at this! Isn't this the cutest kitty you have ever seen? Looks like he wants his belly scratched. The boys wouldn't volunteer for that job. I guess I can't blame them.
The boys also love this little elephant statue. The SF Zoo doesn't have elephants anymore, but the statue is really cute.
Who is this mysterious monkey boy?

After the zoo, we went to San Francisco State University, my old alma matter. I wanted to show the kids around. It looks completely different now. Buildings have been added, and many are in the process of being renovated. We saw these SFSU Gators in the window of the bookstore. We all thought they were really cute.

Word of the Day: Reading. I am almost finished with My Sister's Keeper, by Jodi Picoult. It's really good! I so needed a good book. I read the Julie and Julia book, but it was only ok. In fact several books I have read lately, have only been so-so. I really needed a good one, and My Sister's Keeper is delivering. I plan to read Dead Until Dark, by Charlaine Harris-it's the first Sookie Stackhouse book. I've had so many people tell me how great it is, and how they love True Blood (on Showtime/HBO?), so I decided to give it a try. I am rather excited about it. By the way, I know book titles should be underlined, but it does not appear that I have that function on this blog. Just so you know.
